What are the defining characters of great catchers?
We have all seen catcher’s that have “it”… whether at the youth, high school, collegiate, or professional level. It doesn’t take long watching a baseball game to notice a catcher that has “it”.
What’s more, great catchers are game changers. The “it” factor that they bring to their team is noticeable by everyone.
So, what are the defining characteristics of great catchers? How do you define a catcher’s “it” factor?
The Catcher’s Creed consists of nine characteristics that define great catchers:

Every single one of these characteristics are 100% controllable and 100% learnable. The only gatekeeper that could prevent a catcher from epitomizing every aspect of the Catcher’s Creed is their individual desire to practice, learn, and grow. It’s not always easy to personify these characteristics, especially during hard circumstances, but it is always within a person’s control.
First up is character. Character is the glue that holds everything together, and in the next blog post we will walk through what it looks like for a catcher to embody character.
