WHAT IS CATCHER UNIVERSITY?

The Complete Guide to Building Greatness in Catchers

On and Off the Field

Catcher University’s mission is to be The Complete Guide to Building Greatness in Catchers On and Off the Field for coaches, parents, and players. We believe that skill development is a product of hard work and practice, and therefore we are in the business of teaching catchers at all levels what it takes to transform themselves into the best catcher they can possibly be.

We also believe that to be a truly great catcher, you must be a leader. We spend a lot of time working with our catchers on their mindset, attitude, and leadership skills. Training the minds of our catchers is just as important to us as training their bodies.

To fulfill our mission, we offer free online content through our public library, live training events through our camps, classes, and lessons, and premium online content through The Complete Catcher Library.

matt twitter profile picHi, my name is Matt Williams and I coach to develop my players into men of integrity who will love, serve, and lead others with confidence, excellence, and purpose.

I played my youth and high school baseball in my home state of Michigan where I was the first ever four year starter at my high school. After a successful prep career that included almost every high school award in the state, I went to Duke University on a baseball scholarship.

While at Duke, I was a four-year starting catcher and played 216 games in my four year career.

After graduation, I was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 18th round of the 2009 MLB draft. I went on to play one year of professional baseball before retiring to pursue a career in coaching.

Licio Tamburlini

Owner, Head Coach

licio bio picMy name is Licio Tamburlini. I was born and raised in Venezuela. I have played baseball since the age of three, and came to the United States to play college baseball. As a high school player, I won the “Best Catcher” of the state award twice and I won it once nationally. The year before I came to the United States to play college baseball, I had the opportunity to play instructional league with the rookie-ball team of the Milwaukee Brewers in the Dominican Republic.

I started my college career at Indian Hills Community College where I batted .375 as a freshman catcher. I played my last baseball season at Northeastern State University as the starting catcher and was named All-MIAA Honorable Mention.

I coach to prepare players to become role models for society. As a coach, I want my players to act first class and treat others the way the want to be treated. I train my players not only to be the best they can be on the field but off the field as well. My goal is to teach young guys to be mentally tough, and see the challenges of life as new opportunities to make a difference.

My baseball career began as soon as I could walk. I have been catching since the very beginning. I always wanted to be a part of the action. I loved making my pitchers go from good to great and I loved being the foundation for great teams.

I grew up in Denver, Colorado where I grew up in the Cherry Creek baseball dynasty. I was recruited to Phoenix, Arizona and played for Paradise Valley Community College and then transferred to MidAmerica Nazarene University to complete my career. While at MNU, I was named Walter Johnson League All-Star Catcher, two-time Second-Team All Conference Catcher, First-Team All Conference Catcher, HAAC Champions of Character Award and earned multiple academic awards.

My passion for catching transformed into being more than just the guy behind the dish. I learned that as a catcher, we are given the opportunity to leave a lasting impact on our teammates, our opponents and those watching. Orchestrating every pitch like a move on a chess board and every conversation with intentional purpose, I helped lead many teams to championship levels. It is now my purpose to inspire the next generation of catchers — making better athletes, better leaders and better men.
